Don’t COP out

Do you ever feel like you’re banging your drum in the dark? Being a thinker within the box of your brain, and writing in the seclusion of your own home can create an echo chamber. In the last year I have stepped out. This year we had COP26 in Scotland. When I heard there was going to be a pilgrimage, I thought, time for a Chaucerian experience! Trudging in the rain for 15 miles a day I found a fellow poet along the way. Walking and talking about your art is wonderfully enthusing. The outfit I went with is called A+ E, for art and ecology. We carried handmade banners by Kinetika, spotted yarnbombing in Falkirk (pictured) were regaled by a singer and saw a papier-mache polar bear. The pilgrims had come from far and wide, even walking from Sweden, and had many tales to tell. I returned home feeling like I had met my wandering tribe. I believe that there is a collective unconscious. Just now it says: Save the seas. Save the planet. Don’t cop out, join in.
